V for Verdict

I'm going to have to take exception to pretty much every review I've read of V for Vendetta.

It is absolutely not terrible. The story is not butchered, though a lot was condensed, combined, streamlined, and yes, updated. If you've read the graphic novel, it should be clear why faithfully reproducing all the events and involving all the characters just wouldn't work in two hours.

It is also not great. It's good. It's solid, it's respectable. It's entertaining, and during the scene readers of the graphic novel can guess, I heard one of the two guys behind me - maybe about 20 years old, making coolly distant, snide remarks to his friend during the previews - quietly sniffle.

If I were Alan Moore, I wouldn't have fought to keep my name off of it. It won't deserve any awards, though.

Various spoilery points rambled over. )
